BENDING TOWARDS THE SUN

Summer Eyes, 2023–2024
Scope | Social Content Creation, Album Art, Merchandise, Photography, Video Direction + Editing

Summer Eyes is an award winning Alternative/Indie trio from British Columbia, Canada. I served as creative director during the release of their debut album, “Bending Towards the Sun”. The band wanted their visuals to convey that while the music they are creating is new and relevant, it comes from seasoned musicians. I aimed to create inspiring and thoughtful content that got viewers excited while showing authentically who the band members are as artists.

The social campaign included behind-the-scenes video content that invited new audiences in, while an animated teaser series got fans of their previous EP excited. Geometric shapes were chosen to represent each of the singles leading up to the album’s release, corresponding with themes in the music and details in the album artwork.

Album Artwork

Album artwork was created in collaboration with Vancouver-based artist, Scott Radnidge. His collage-style paintings provided inspiration for the geometric motif used throughout the campaign.

Social Content

The social campaign included behind-the-scenes video content, an animated teaser series, and lots of bright and colorful photos. In the teasers, geometric shapes were chosen to represent each of the singles leading up to the album’s release, corresponding with themes in the lyrics and details in the album artwork. Once the album was released, the shapes all came together to form the main emblem of the project, featured on tee shirts, stickers, and a custom keyboard stand.

Rewind Music Video

The video for Rewind I chose this location to mimic a dream-like memory in which I imagined the band was recalling.

Another Life Music Video

This music video was created entirely using Wii Music. I designed Mii characters to look like the band members and recorded them playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star dozens of times. Then I edited it to appear as though the band was performing their own song. I used this nostalgic video game setting to match the dynamic synthesizers heard in the song.
