RUNWAY TO RUNWAY
The Museum of Flight, 2026
Scope | Exhibit Wayfinding, Curriculum Development, Digital and Print Ad Campaign, Merchandise Design
Runway to Runway is a temporary exhibit at The Museum of Flight highlighting over 100 artifacts from the Museum’s flight attendant collection. The exhibit pulls back the curtain on the racial barriers, sexism and ignored workers’ rights that challenged flight attendants on every flight.
The visual identity for the exhibit’s advertising campaign lets the uniforms speak for themselves. Visuals feature bold collages of hats, bags, and scarves, and a black diagonal motif matching the angle of the monogram. The cheerful, colorful accessories bring a playfulness to the brand and generate excitement without overshadowing the exhibit’s focus on human rights.
The uniforms themselves are accentuated by a tight crop and exaggerated size that allows viewers to empathize with the human stories of the exhibit by imagining someone wearing each piece. The on-site signage functions as an advertisement for the exhibit, but also as vital wayfinding across the campus’s disparate layout.
The choice to feature the artifacts so prominently also supports a larger strategic initiative to give Museum visitors more ways to engage with the collection. Throughout the design process, I considered how each asset could scale beyond the length of the exhibit and become a celebration of the Museum’s artifacts. For example, the “Design a Uniform” worksheet asks learners to engage with design thinking and STEM in a way that can expand beyond the exhibit to include astronaut or flight suits.
